Bird Cage Typography /
The typography design is about a Hong Kong Birdcage Exhibition. In the past, apart from Yum Cha, Hong Kong people would bring their birds and gather in the teahouse. It is called "Nian Chou". It is a pity that the culture hanging out in teahouse is fading and the local traditional crafts of bird cages are being lost. Only one cage maker is left in HK. Traditional culture is gradually being forgotten. Nevertheless, there are only a few old-style teahouses left and public transport is also a restriction. Through this event, I hope I can preserve and inherit the "Nian Chou" culture and human touch in HK teahouse.
Typeface /
Since birdcage is made by bamboo, so the font is created by thin line and cage. Furthermore, I try to draw the radicals of the birdcage accessories such as hooks and brackets. I also made a poster and promotional items at the end. In the poster, I put words like hanging birdcage in teahouse and I amplify words about Hong Kong Birdcage Exhibition so the audience may the birdcage clearly.
For the promotional items, it is a leaflet. I cut the birdcage on the cover page so to see the bird under it. I also put some information and history of "Nian Chou" culture so people may know more from the leaflet and try to understand the importance to protect traditional culture.
